That participation in student sports competitions is often the way to the highest professional heights, is also told by the story from the handball team of Serbia, which this winter participated in the European Championship 2020 in Austrian city of Graz. Two guys, goalkeeper Tibor Ivanisevic and left-winger Vanja Ilic, have been wearing the national team jersey for years, and they made their first successes as part of a team that participated in the 2015 Summer Universiade in the Korean city of Gwangju, where Serbia won a silver medal.

Very nice memories bind us to this event. I remember it was a fantastic organization, nice atmosphere and a great team that made it to the finals – says Ilic, on which words Ivanisevic adds:

Attending such events is the only way to advance your sports career. We played the finals with the Portuguese, and in addition to the two of us on the Serbian team, here are some Portuguese who played in Korea at the time. It was a springboard for all of us.

The left wing of the French Chartres and the goalkeeper of German Weclar, expect Serbia to be an excellent organizer of the 5th European University Games, which will be held in Belgrade from July 12 to 25, with the participation of almost 6,000 athletes.

I am sure that our country, as an experienced organizer of sports competitions, will show how this is done. I wish the athletes a lot of success, to continue to work, train and realize their dreams – says Ivanisevic.

I know how valuable each experience of this kind is, so I hope that young athletes will keep Belgrade in the best possible memory. Welcome to our country. I wish the organizers good luck – Ilic concludes.

Among the 19 sports and two para sports, the program of the 5th European University Games includes handball and beach handball.
