Last week two most important club competitions in the world of football have began – Champions League and Europa League. Serbia has representatives in both, because Crvena Zvezda Belgrade plays in the Champions League, while Partizan Belgrade is representing domestic football in Europa League. However, because next year at the fifth European Universities Games football will be on program as well, we want to dream how could this competition look if had the chance to see the best football players among students.

If we start from the most famous football players, we believe that the list can start with great rivals from English Premier League. Juan Mata, Vincent Kompany, Andrei Arshavin and Edwin van der Sar are proofs that modern football leaves enough space for players to combine Academic development with the highest level of football.

Juan Mat in his career played for three teams and playing for Valencia, Chelsea and Manchester United were enough to win most important trophies. He is an owner of the Champions League trophy, twice he won Europa League and climbed to the top of Europe and the World with the Spanish national team. In his academic career he graduated Marketing and Sports Science at the Camilo Jose Cela University in Spain.

Vincent Kompany was six times part of the team that won national championships. He did that two times with Anderlecht and twice as many time with Manchester City. He recently decided to take the managerial position in the team where he started his career and is currently coaching Belgium side Anderlecht. His Academic career has an MBA he gained at the Aliance Manchester Business School.

Andrei Arshavin is famous as a player for Arsenal and Zenith from Saint Petersbourg and finishing his career last year wearing the jersey of Kairat from Kazakhstan. Biggest success´ he had in Russia, where he won domestic league with Zenith three times, as well as the UEFA Cup in 2008. Besides his football career, he graduated fashion design.

Edwin van der Sar is a goalkeeper that has, besides his name, two Champions League trophies and two awards for the best goalkeeper in Europe. He leaved the biggest mark playing for Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United, playing also for Fulham and Noorwiijk. After finishing his career he dedicated himself to new roles in Ajax, first being the Marketing Director and CEO position ha has since 2016. His Management in Sport position he earned after he retired is helping him in these roles.

EUSA competition could be much better if anyone from the list played for his University at some moment. We hope that the next year at the fifth European Universities Games in Belgrade will we see some famous player at some university roster.
