The International Students’ Day is celebrated all around the world on November 17. This year marks the 80th anniversary.

The initiators – Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) and the European Students’ Union (ESU) this year focus on support the recognition process of the #17NOV as the official International Day.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) supports the initiative as well, and emphasises that sport and recreation play an important role also in higher / tertiary education, for the physical and mental health of the students.

The date of 17th November was chosen to be the International Students’ Day to commemorate events that unfolded in Prague in 1939 during World War II, when nine students were executed, over 1200 students sent to concentration camps, and universities and colleges got closed. Nowadays, November 17 marks a celebration of students and their rights.
