Cradle of the table tennis in Serbia is a city of Sombor, in the northern part of the county. That was the place where the professor from Zagreb demonstrated the sport to Mr. Ferenc Sevald, professor of the local Grammar School. It will stay remembered that on the January 3 1926 in the Hungarian Library of the Sombor Grammar School first table tennis tournament in Serbia was held. Bežika Bujak and Pal Bujak won the first place and will remain recognized as the first winners in Serbia table tennis history.
Several years later Yugoslav ping-pong Association was founded in that very city. First time, national team of Yugoslavia, made from players from Sombor, participated at the World Cup in 1929 in Budapest and took the ninth spot.
