Can you remember the best year in your life? Year when absolutely everything went perfectly and which was a turnaround for your future or your career. Every one of us can say about at least one year, but one Serbian basketball player had a year that was really special and rare.
In the spring of 2014 Stefan Jović was one regular basketball players. He competed in ABA League for the KK Radnički from Kragujevac and studied at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education at the University of Niš, playing for the team of his faculty as well. Season that was without a doubt the best he had so far started when he wore University of Niš jersey and from the playmaker role lead his team to the title of the best University team in Serbia, title that meant that they qualified for the European Universities Games in Rotterdam.
However, destiny didn´t want him to be with his teammates in the Netherlands. Surely he was missed by his team as they would most probably have the better result (they finished third), but he received the call that is really hard to say no to. Serbian national team coach, Aleksandar Đorđević saw his potential and called him to be part of the national team for the World Championship in 2014 in Spain. The entire team had the amazing tournament but they had to satisfy only with the silver medal.
Good games didn´t go unnoticed and the next call he got was from Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, that returned to the most elite European Basketball competition – Euroleague, first time after 15 years. Returning season of Crvena Zvezda went perfectly to Jović and the rest, as they fought their way to the Top 16 teams in Europe. In the regional basketball league they set the record with 20 consecutive victories and won the triple-crown. Besides regional league, they won Serbian Championship and Cup.
At the end of his 365 days he had four gold medals and one silver (including the bronze that University of Niš won in Rotterdam).
If it is not clear so far, you see how little was needed for someone to turn his world upside down. And everything started with the title won in the jersey of a University team at a University competition. Among 5000 athletes that will next year be at the European Universities Games we wish that at least one new Stefan Jović starts the best 365 day in his or her life. See you in Belgrade at the beginning of the best 365 days in your life.
